Judy Harwood

Judy Harwood, aka Jewell Meek Harwood, earned a B.A. in Psychology and a M.A. in School Psychology from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh.

During college, she worked as a ward attendant in a large mental institution reminiscent of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”.  She served a practicum experience in a treatment program for emotionally disturbed youngsters.

She enjoyed a twenty-eight year career as a mental health professional in public schools in New York. She continues to serve on the Executive Board of the New York Association of School Psychologist, a commitment of twenty-five consecutive years.  Her current role is that of Awards chairperson.  She is a member of the National Association of School Psychologists, having served as delegate from New York to their governance board (1998-1990)

She has published articles in professional publications and served on the editorial board of The School Psychologist, a trade newsletter (1991-1992).  She and colleague, Ruth Steegmann, compiled a manual for beginning school psychologists entitled, “Survival Handbook” in 2002.  They continue to update the manual on the website, www.nyasp.org.

The Smooth and Wire Quarterly, a breed magazine for Fox Terriers, has published two articles, “The Road to Westminster in 2004 and “A Whole Lot of Liver” in 2005.
